Weaving Workshop Series with Ronnie Jordan


The Ginninderry Conservation Trust is partnering with Culture on the Move to deliver a series of fully guided weaving workshops. Over 5 weeks, you will immerse yourself in weaving techniques and empower a sense of connection and opportunity to experience and heal through traditional culture.

Join Pitta Pitta woman, Ronnie, as she takes you through the whole weaving process. The program will involve:

  • Introduction to coil weaving then onto learning the full technique of coiling.

  • Cultural knowledge shared on how to prepare traditional fibers.

  • Participants will have the chance to familiarize themselves with the fibers and artifacts.

Each participant will receive a weaving pack valued at $65 each. The pack includes a full weaving guide, needle and enough materials to continue weaving at home. All materials are included- raffia, natural grasses depending on time of year.

Each weekly session will run as follows:

Day 1: Collection of plants on site, plant identification and learning how to prepare fibres for weaving.

Day 2: Learning how to coil weave.

Day 3: Continue weaving, sharing cultural knowledge on weaving and plant use.

Day 4: Continue weaving using plant fibres that have been collected on site.

Day 5: Finish end product & reflection.

Dates: 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th of May, and 6th of June (all Saturday sessions)
Time: 10:00am- 1:30pm
Location: Meet at The Link, 1 McClymont Way, Strathnarin 
Cost: $150 per person
